Autumn has come, and with it, the Mid-Autumn Festival! This harvest-season festival is celebrated much like Thanksgiving in the US: families get together and have a big feast.
An important part of the celebration is eating moon cakes. You can find these for sale in Columbus Asian grocery stores and from community bakers who sell entirely online/via WeChat.
This year, Mid-Autumn Festival falls on October 1st, which is also National Day in the PRC, celebrating the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
The Republic of China celebrates National Day on October 10th, the anniversary of the 1911 Wuchang Uprising that was the beginning of the end of the Qing Dynasty. The Republic of China was established soon thereafter.
